Forecast Calls For Rain

I had been watching the weather all afternoon. Heavy clouds were pushing through, and I knew if the timing aligned, there might be a brief window where the setting sun would break through just above the horizon while the storm clouds were still overhead.

I arrived at Brant Point as the sky began shifting. The clouds were thick and textured, moving across the frame in layers - some dark and heavy, others catching the last warmth of the day and turning gold against the blue-gray mass behind them. The lighthouse stood centered and calm, its white structure grounded against the drama unfolding above.

The walkway led my eye directly to the lighthouse, creating a strong compositional anchor. I wanted the clouds to dominate the frame - to show the scale and weight of the atmosphere while the lighthouse remained patient and unmoved below. The contrast between the stillness of the structure and the turbulence overhead was what drew me in.

What made this moment work was the interplay between storm and light. The clouds weren't chaotic - they were structured, layered, purposeful. And for just a few minutes, the sun found its way through, illuminating select pockets of sky while leaving the rest in shadow. It was atmospheric, moody, and fleeting - the kind of light you can't predict, only witness when conditions align.
