Every good golf hole has a signature angle, and on the 10th South at Berkeley Hall the best vantage is from just beside the bunker complex, looking back across ornamental grasses toward the green. I found this perspective on an evening when the sky was doing its slow transition from gold to violet, and the low light was raking across the mounds and grasses at exactly the right angle.
The foreground tells the story. Clumps of muhly grass and pampas grass rising out of pine-straw beds give the image its texture; the bunker scalloping around those mounds echoes the shapes. From there the eye travels up the green to the distant fairway and finally to the pine canopy silhouetted against the last of the light. It's a composition with three distinct planes, each working to pull the viewer deeper.
Low Country golf courses are always about contrasts — manicured and wild, clean-edged and natural — and holes like this one make that tension visible. The bunker is surgery; the grasses are forgiveness.
