There's a particular live oak on the 12th North that I come back to every time I walk this property. It's massive, gnarled, absolutely dripping with Spanish moss, and it frames the approach to the green so perfectly that the tree itself feels like part of the course architecture. This is its portrait.
I set up just off the cart path, using the oak's trunk to anchor the left side of the frame and letting the moss cascade down into the upper right. Through the gap in the branches, the green and its bunker sit centered in the distance, their shapes reflected into the pond between the tree and the putting surface. The tannin-dark water did what Low Country water always does — tinted the reflection, added layers of color, deepened the mood.
This is what Southern golf photography is really about. Not the sky, not the bunker, not even the green — it's the tree. The oaks are the reason the courses feel the way they feel, and honoring them in the frame is the photographer's quiet acknowledgment of that fact.
