There's a moment on the 17th North Course, between the last light of day and true twilight, when the sky turns into a soft palette of rose and lavender and everything below it settles into quiet. I'd been waiting for this light, having set up just off the green with a clear view across the fairway toward the distant pine line.
The flagstick on the putting surface is the white accent — small but essential — that anchors the middle of the frame. The live oaks and pines on the far side form a dense, dark backdrop, their rounded crowns making the upper frame feel protected. The clean grass foreground pulls you straight forward through the image, making you feel as if you're about to walk up to the green yourself.
This is the Tom Fazio design at its most quietly effective. The hole doesn't perform; it simply waits, beautifully, for the player to arrive.
