I'd been on the North Course since before first light, and by the time I reached the ninth hole, the sunrise was delivering exactly what I'd hoped for. The sky was transitioning through that remarkable spectrum - deep blue overhead fading to lavender, then pink, then that warm coral-orange band at the horizon. The pond was completely still, creating a mirror surface that doubled everything.
What stopped me was how complete the reflection was. The tree line, the fairway, the sculpted green - all of it repeated perfectly in the water, creating symmetry that felt almost surreal. I positioned myself to emphasize this mirroring, giving the reflection equal weight with the actual landscape. The oak draped with Spanish moss on the left provided natural framing, and the path winding through the background added depth and context.
The light was that soft, even quality that only exists during the transition from night to day - warm enough to show color, gentle enough to avoid harsh shadows. I worked quickly, knowing this stillness wouldn't last once wind picked up or the course came to life. What I wanted to capture was this privilege of being here alone at dawn, when the course sits pristine and the water acts as a perfect mirror, when the sky performs its daily transformation and everything feels suspended between what was and what's coming.
