Spanish moss hanging down into the top of a frame is one of the signature moves of Low Country photography, and on the 9th North this particular morning, the moss caught the gold of a sunrise behind it and turned the entire upper frame into a curtain of warm, glowing fiber.
I composed from across the pond, looking toward the clubhouse in the distance as the sun came up behind it. The pond held a soft reflection of the whole scene; the fairway caught morning light; the distant clubhouse sat in the center of the composition like a destination. The moss framed the top, casting soft shadows that gave the image its depth.
Scenes like this happen only at specific times of year, when the angle of the sunrise aligns with the clubhouse and the moss on this particular oak catches the right glow. I'd scouted it twice before actually making the image; on the third try, it all came together.
