American Original
Each piece is captured in a rare moment where light, time, and place come together.
The bison was resting in the sagebrush when I found it - settled into the low brush as though the landscape itself had grown up around it, which in a sense it had. The blue sky above was clear and high, the pines behind it deep green, and the animal itself was so perfectly placed in its environment that it seemed less like a subject I had discovered than something the landscape had composed around itself. I kept my distance and set up for the long shot.
There is a solidity to a resting bison that the action shots don't capture - a quality of rootedness, of mass in repose, that communicates something essential about the species and its relationship to this landscape. The American bison nearly disappeared entirely from this continent in the space of a few decades and has recovered, partially, in places like this one. Sitting in the sagebrush at Yellowstone, it looks as though it never left.
American Original is the image in the bison series that I return to for its stillness. It is not dramatic. It is not a moment of action or decision or tension. It is simply an old animal in its landscape, resting in the way it has always rested, in a place it was born to occupy. That fact, held quietly in this frame and printed large, has a weight that grows the more you sit with it.

My Commitment
craftsmanship
Quality and craftsmanship sit at the heart of every piece I produce—long after the shutter clicks and long before a print ever reaches a wall. From meticulous file preparation to museum-grade materials and exacting color accuracy, each image is refined through a deliberate, uncompromising process designed to honor the moment it was captured. It is this final, critical step that transforms a fleeting encounter in the wild into a lasting work of fine art.
