There's a quality to the Cincinnati skyline at the precise moment the sun drops below the horizon that I've been chasing for years. It's not the sunset itself — it's the ten minutes after, when the city lights are fully on but the sky still holds enough color to compete with them. The Ohio River catches both, and the result is a scene that exists at no other time of day.
I shot this from across the river, using the Ohio as a foreground mirror for the skyline above it. The natural and artificial light sources find their equilibrium in a way that's almost collaborative — neither overwhelming the other, both contributing to the same image. Cincinnati has one of the more underrated urban skylines in America. Evenings like this one make the argument.
