Some sunsets are gentle, others are spectacular. This was the latter—clouds stacking in layers that caught every shade from deep magenta to soft pink, creating a sky so vivid it almost didn't seem real. I'd been photographing the lighthouse for the better part of an hour, but this was the moment I'd been waiting for, when the sky itself became the main subject.

The lighthouse's distinctive stripes—red, white, and blue in a pattern that's instantly recognizable—stood in sharp relief against the colorful sky. The still water of the marina acted as a second canvas, capturing not just the lighthouse but the entire spectrum of sunset colors. Boats sat peacefully at their moorings, their white hulls picking up the pink tones from above. The scene had a dreamlike quality, as if the familiar had been transformed into something extraordinary by the quality of light alone.

What I love about photographing this lighthouse is how it changes with the light. In harsh midday sun, it's cheerful and graphic. At twilight, it becomes romantic. But in sunset like this, it transcends its physical form and becomes part of a larger spectacle—land, water, sky, and human creation all participating in that brief moment when day surrenders to night.
