I positioned myself to capture the full sweep of the Woodford Reserve stillhouse, letting the foreground still anchor the composition while the others recede into the background, creating layers of copper and context. The limestone walls rose on either side, their whitewashed surfaces reflecting the warm tones of the metal and the golden cast of the lighting. The wood floor stretched away, its planks creating leading lines that draw the eye deeper into the space.
The copper itself is what commands attention - not polished to showroom perfection but showing the honest wear of working equipment. Some areas gleam, others have developed the deeper patina that comes from repeated heating and cooling. The curves of the pot stills create organic forms - bulbous chambers that sit on their bases like oversized vessels, connected to ascending columns and pipes that carry vapor upward for condensation and collection.
The perspective in this composition emphasizes both scale and repetition. Three stills visible in progression, each slightly different in angle and lighting, each contributing to a process that requires multiple stages of distillation. The Woodford Reserve name on the far wall provides context and establishes place, while the architectural details - exposed beams, stone walls, careful lighting - frame the equipment as the centerpiece it deserves to be.
