During the 2022 Bengals season, Cincinnati went all in. Businesses across downtown lit their buildings in Who Dey Orange, the streets had an energy I hadn't seen in the city before, and for a few months that winter, everything felt charged with genuine collective belief. I was out after dark during that run, and what I found was a city wearing its team on its facade.
Welcome to the Jungle is the song that plays when the Bengals take the field, and it was the right title for a photograph of a city that had found its roar again. The orange glow on the buildings, the empty streets after a late-night game, the sense of a place that knows something is happening — this is what civic joy looks like from the outside. The Bengals made the Super Bowl that year. Cincinnati earned this photograph.
